With the summer fast approaching, there’s no better time than the present to try your hand at one of our outdoor classes. At BUA, we love nothing more than an outdoor workout with the sun shining. We’re CERTAIN that summer is a fantastic time to train outdoors.

With that said, here are our top reasons to workout in the great outdoors this summer:

Get the Vitamin D onboard

The best source of Vitamin D is from the sunshine. Very few foods are high in natural sources of Vitamin D, so from April to September, you can get all that necessary vitamin onboard via the sun. This will help to fortify your bones, and also helps to regulate the amount of calcium and phosphate in your body.

To maintain healthy blood levels, we’re encouraged to get up to 30 minutes of sunlight, a few times a week. And what better way to do that, than during a full on sweat sesh!?

Fill yo’ lungs

Boost your health by filling your lungs with fresh, clean air. The fresh air will not only increase your oxygen levels, but also strengthen your white blood cells to function more efficiently.

Improve brain function

By exercising outdoors, and enjoying the fresh air, you’ll improve the functionality of your brain, thanks to the increased oxygen levels. Oxygen is essential to maintain a healthy brain, growth, and even healing. Did you know, the brain uses three times as much oxygen for healthy nerve cell function than muscles?

Less stress

There are so many things that can stress us out – being cooped up inside all day, rain, arguments…the list is endless. It’s been discovered by scientists that spending time outside reduces stress, and lowered heart rate was a noticeable side effect of this. It’s also been proven that time spent outdoors equates to less time spent thinking about anxiety-inducing issues.

Meet new friends

It’s well documented that group exercise classes are a fantastic way to keep you accountable – not only for your goals, but for turning up to a class, and to newly made friends in your class. You don’t want to let down your workout partner, and they won’t want to let you down either. And let’s be honest, there’s nothing better than getting an ice cold fruity smoothie with friends at the end of a hardcore workout.
