So, you were guilty of giving up on last year’s New Year’s Resolutions? It’s okay; we know how it is. You get to the third week of January and start to forget why you made those promises to yourself in the first place. The novelty of the new year starts to wear off, the people around you start to forget about their own resolutions, and that fast food spot you walk by on the way home from work smells better and better each time you pass. We’re here to tell you that this time will be different. Here are a few tips to help leave those bad habits all the way back in 2018…
Review Your Progress
Remember those ‘before and afters’ we spoke about in our New Year’s Resolutions post a few weeks back? Now’s the time to dust them off and look at just how far you’ve come. Even in that relatively small amount of time you’ll see signs of progress that ought to give you the boost of motivation you need to get straight back on track.
Reflect and Remind
Reflect on your lifestyle and actions leading up to the date you made these aims and remind yourself why you decided to change in the first place. Put yourself in your 2018 shoes and look back on any low points that really hit home and caused the reasoning behind your resolution choices – it’ll do a world of good.
Re-evaluate Your Goals (If Required)
Whilst we are preaching about the importance of sticking to your resolutions, we’re not saying they have to be set in stone. If you find yourself struggling to keep up with certain aspects of your new diet/workout plan/lifestyle choices there’s no shame in re-evaluating them to make them a little more attainable or realistic. Whether that’s by lowering targets, moving dates or restructuring a workout plan – you do what you’ve gotta’ do!
Enlist the Help of Others
Making big changes to certain parts of your life can be difficult, especially when doing it alone. Enlist the help of partners/friends/family to keep you on track when things get tough. Give them the ins and outs of your resolutions and ask them for their support whenever you think you may need it – an outside perspective can be a huge help.
Don’t Make a Mountain Out of a Molehill
We see and hear about this kind of thing all the time, particularly with new diets. You have one lapse of judgement then write off the whole thing as a total failure, reverting back to your old bad habits. The key is to understand that these things happen, and are nothing more than temporary set backs. Get back on track asap and reinstate those resolutions as if nothing happened.
As always, stay fit and healthy!
