6 reasons why you should try a boxing class in 2022
Look, it’s an easy misconception to have – you don’t need to look like Mike Tyson to be able to enjoy boxing. Whether you’re already an athlete, or just starting out on your fitness journey, boxing is a fantastic way to get in shape, tone up, and even build muscle. Whether you’re working out in the ring, or trying out a pad-based workout for the first time, there are so many reasons why you *have* to try a boxing class this year!
Get your whole body moving
Cardio and strength all in one workout? Sign us up! You’ll not only improve your strength and cardio, but you’ll also be working on skills including, balance, coordination, and agility. How else are you going to be able to dodge, dive, dip, duck and….dodge?
Smash out the stress
Get your anxiety, frustration and anger out on a punch bag. You’ll have the endorphins flowing in no time….and the punch bag won’t even punch back – bonus! And with endorphins comes extra happiness. Who’d say no to that?
Burn calories – fast!
Improve your resting heart rate and muscular endurance. Boxing really does take the edge over other workouts. With a potential burn of around 13 calories a minute, you’ll be working off anywhere from 200-400 calories in half an hour during a Box Fit session.
Keep your brain in gear
You’ll never stop learning with boxing. You may start off with a 3 punch routine, but within weeks you’ll be learning 6, 7, 8 punches in a row, ensuring you stay on your toes, and your mind is in full action during every workout session. With the complete focus that boxing requires, you know you need to stay fully focused on the workout for its duration.
Teamwork makes the dreamwork
It does, doesn’t it!? At least that’s what we’re told. When you’re mid Box-Fit workout, and you’re punching, your partner is busy working the pads you need to punch, exactly when you want them. So even when you’re not actively punching the pads, you’re working on coordination with a partner, and making new friends at the same time (or punching that little bit harder if you don’t like them, but hey, you do you!).
Rotational Awareness
Boxing does include quite a lot of rotation, which many other workouts don’t focus on. If you have a bad back, be mindful during workouts, but improving thoracic rotation is a great addition to working on core strength, and improving general torso flexibility.
